Balancing Breath

Balancing Breath is my favorite breathing technique. You can use it any time, anywhere either to calm you down or get you going, depending on what you need in the moment. Besides the immediate energizing or calming effects, the benefits of this exercise include:

Oxygenating your blood
Oxygenating your organs
Balancing the left and right hemispheres of the brain.

The left brain is in charge of the past, future and critical thinking. For most of us, it is overdeveloped. Conversely, the right brain is in charge of the present moment, creativity, intuition and imagination. Usually the right brain could use a little work out.

You work your left brain every day making decisions, answering emails, and getting from place to place. And sometimes what happens is that our right brains get neglected and begin to atrophy. When we balance our right and left hemispheres of the brain, we are more able to bring our creative, connected selves to any given situation: we are better able to perform at the top of our game with both present-moment awareness and logical reasoning.
