Welcome to Ziva Meditation

If you’re reading this, chances are you have some curiosity about meditation. Maybe you are already dabbling in it but want to learn “for real,” or maybe a friend suggested that you check it out. Or, perhaps you stumbled upon this page completely by accident while Googling how to be a rockstar human. Whatever the case, welcome. I’m glad you’re here and I’d love to share with you a bit more about Ziva Meditation and what we do.

At Ziva we are all about meditation for better performance. After all, no one cares how good you are at meditation, but everyone cares how good you are at life. We offer a combination of mindfulness and what I like to call “the lazy man’s meditation.” At the core of what we teach is Vedic meditation: a 6,000 year old practice that comes from the Vedas, an ancient body of knowledge, from which stems yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, and acupuncture. Vedic meditation requires no effort, no focused concentration, and no attempting to “clear the mind.” Instead, at Ziva you are given a mantra that helps to induce a 4th state of consciousness that is different from waking, sleeping or dreaming. It feels kind of like a power nap sitting up. The mantra is a meaningless sound that de-excites the nervous system in a way that gives the body deep rest so that you feel more awake afterwards with less stress in your body.

Almost every week there is a new scientific study released singing the praises of meditation. It offers a huge list of benefits. Some of them are physical and immediate; others are more subtle. Many of my students experience deeper, more refreshing sleep while also noticing that they have more energy during the day. Many others notice that they feel more connected and present, which leads to better relationships — and even better sex! People also frequently report feeling less anxious and more capable of responding to demanding situations in a calm, level-headed manner. I had a student who likened it to never realizing you needed glasses. Once you put them on, life comes into sharp focus.

And if there’s anyone who can vouch for the benefits of meditation, it’s me. Ten years ago I was on Broadway understudying three of the leads in A Chorus Line. On paper I was living my dream, but in reality I was suffering from anxiety, had been struggling with insomnia for eighteen months, and was going grey at the tender age of 26. I was desperate for a solution, so when a fellow cast member told me she swore by meditation I thought, what do I have to lose?

After the first day of the course, I slept through the night for the first time in 18 months! Then I stopped getting sick, I stopped going gray, I started enjoying my life and realized that this practice was something special. It has since up-leveled my performance and my life so dramatically that I felt inspired to share it with others. I left Broadway in 2009 and went to India, where I began a three-year training process to become a meditation teacher. Since then, I have taught over 2,800 people to become self-sufficient meditators.

How It Works

If you’re wondering how it works, here’s the basic gist. In Ziva’s in-person course that we offer in NYC and LA, the course runs two hours a day for four consecutive days. After taking the course, you have the practice to take with you for life. You will be totally self-sufficient with a practice that you enjoy and can do anywhere, anytime.  No need for apps, earbuds, crystals, incense or kaftans. It is designed to be integrated into your schedule no matter how busy you are.

As a zivaFAMILY member, you also have lifetime to an access of follow-up, meaning that you can return to take the course again whenever you like free of charge. Plus you have access to our group meditations (which happen once a week) and our incredible online community.

If you don’t live in NYC or LA but are itching to get started then you can join zivaMIND, the world’s first online meditation training, which only takes 35 min a day for 8 days. Twenty min in the am and 10-15 min in the evening is recommended, but feel free to do the program in your own time. This can be done anywhere in the world! You’ll quickly learn that meditation can be effortless and enjoyable.

zivaMIND will also give you a self-sufficient meditation practice that you can do anywhere, anytime, but it is a bit gentler than what we teach in person so that it is safe enough to move through on your own without face-to-face guidance. You will have the support of our incredible online community of zivaMINDers all over the globe. You are also given 4 guided visualizations that you can use for travel, insomnia, performance anxiety and stress release.

We also offer a bunch of other meditation goodness: private courses, corporate meditation trainings, retreats, advanced courses, zivaEATS nutritional counseling, and much more. Take a look around the site and see what piques your interest.

If you’ve been waiting for the right time to start meditating, the time is now. Let’s do this — the world needs you meditating.
